Queen Elizabeth Park Raise Funds for a Worthy Cause

Queen Elizabeth Park care home donates £300 to Motor Neurone Disease Charity

Queen Elizabeth Park care home presented representatives of the Motor Neurone Disease Charity with a cheque for £300 on 12th January 2015 to help towards research into the disease.

The home raised the money through events at the Christmas Fair and staff and residents are delighted with the amount they are able to donate. The local Motor Neurone Disease Charity representatives joined the staff and residents at the home for an afternoon tea after the presentation of the cheque.

Heather De-Ninis, care home manager, says, “The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charity is one that is close to residents and staff at Queen Elizabeth Park care home.  One of our residents is living  with the condition and we have cared for a number of people with MND in the past.  We have spent this year raising money for the charity by staff completing the ice bucket challenge, so wanted to end the year with an event linked to the festive season to raise much needed funds to support the charities incredible work to help those living with the condition.”

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a rare neurological condition that causes the degeneration of the motor system (the cells and nerves in the brain and spinal cord which control the muscles in our bodies), which results in weakness and wasting of the muscles. Sadly, MND severely reduces life expectancy and most people with MND die within five years of the onset of symptoms.
