The Queen’s Green Canopy

Residents plant a plum tree at charity partner Mane Chance Sanctuary to commemorate The Platinum Jubilee 2022.

A Mirabelle Plum tree, donated by Queen Elizabeth Park Care Home to the Mane Chance Horse Sanctuary, was planted this week to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – and as part of the Queen’s ‘Green Canopy’ initiative.

Gill helped to ‘break the ground’ for the tree.  She said: “It was an honour to plant the tree for the sanctuary in celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee.” The variety was carefully chosen to be animal friendly.

Our care home, based in Hallowes Close in Guildford, provides loving residential and nursing care for people who are living with and without dementia. Mane Chance is our long-standing charity of the year and residents regularly visit the sanctuary to enjoy interacting with the gentle rescue animals.

Di Smart, from the charity, said: “We are thrilled to have planted a tree for The Green Canopy in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.  Our Sanctuary environment is so important to us and we protect its future wherever we can.  This tree will not only be a constant reminder of all our friends at the aptly named Queen Elizabeth Park Care Home, who are very much part of the Mane Chance family, but together we will leave a legacy for generations to come – human and animal!”
