  • Kitchen Assistant, Guildford, Surrey Competitive

    We are currently recruiting for a kitchen assistant to join our care home in Guildford.

    Job Description

    Job purpose – To assist in organising and controlling the efficient and economic production of quality food, maintaining at all times the highest possible standards of hygiene.

    Key Responsibilities

    • To assist the Cook with the preparation of varied nutritious meals for the residents.
    • Help with the serving of meals for residents, be understanding of any specific food requirements and ensure everyone is treated with respect, dignity and given choice.
    • To understand and comply with statutory and legal requirements such as HACCP, Health & Safety, COSHH, Environmental Health, to maintain a safe environment throughout the home.
    • To clean and tidy all areas of the kitchen with the correct products following instruction and guidance contained in the cleaning schedules ensuring Carebase is always cleaned to the highest standards.
    • Ensure that all kitchen equipment is in full, safe working order, immediately report any faults to the Cook and the Caretaker.
    • To receive and unload new stock, store appropriately and rotate current stock correctly to maintain optimum freshness of all foodstuff.
    • To work as an integral part of the team, contribute to meetings and training sessions as required ensuring that Carebase is a friendly and supportive working environment.

    Job Context

    This is a team role, fundamentally within the kitchen but also with the rest of the Care Home team and the residents themselves. Communication is essential in order to plan and provide nutritious, interesting meals which meet the expectations of the residents.

    Job Description

    Job Purpose – To maintain the appearance of the Home to the highest possible standards and to ensure Health and Safety regulations are adhered to at all times.

    Key Responsibilities

     

    • To carry out repairs and maintenance tasks within the individual’s capability in all areas of the Home as requested by employees and the Home Manager.
    • To understand and meet statutory and legal requirements such as Food Safety, Health and Safety, COSHH, Fire Safety, to maintain a safe environment throughout the Care Home.
    • To walk the home daily, identify any problems and carry out specific maintenance and regular safety checks, including weekly fire equipment, lift and tests, keeping accurate, up to date records of the checks. Reporting any deficiencies to the Home Manager and deal with repairs etc as appropriate.
    • Create a preventative maintenance programme of monthly, quarterly, 6 monthly and annual works.
    • To respect residents at all times, especially their individual right to privacy, dignity and choice, incorporating residents’ needs and requirements into your work routine so that Carebase is pleasant to both live and work.
    • To liaise with the Home Manager ensuring the Care Home is maintained in good decorative order, the Carebase environment is comfortable, friendly and has a ‘homely’ feel for the Residents.
    • Obtain authorisation for all expenditure from the Home Manager.
    • To liaise with external contractors entering the Home when carrying out authorised work to ensure that all requirements relating to Health and Safety and the Care Standards Act legislation are fully met.
    • To maintain the grounds, garden areas and fire access, keeping them in neat and tidy condition.
    • To inspect the plant room (boilers), as well as the dishwashers, clothes dryers, etc and report any deficiencies.
    • To ensure that tool and equipment safety are in proper working order and stored correctly so as not to cause any interference with residents and visitors.
    • To ensure the correct uniform and person protection equipment are worn.
    • Maintain a work order log/system to be able to track repairs and outstanding work within the Home.
    • Participate in the emergency and disaster plans for the home.

    Although the actual job is fundamentally an individual role, you are an essential member of the Carebase team and will be interacting and communicating on a regular basis with colleagues and Residents along with outside contractors.

    Job Description

    Job Purpose – To work as an integral part of the caring team, delivering the highest standards of personalised care to residents, ensuring that everyone is treated with respect and dignity, and that individual’s rights to privacy, dignity, independence and choice are met.

    Key Responsibilities

     

    • To provide the highest level of personal care (toileting, washing, bathing etc) and attention to residents, following individual care plans carefully and ensuring that all contact is polite, friendly, warm and supportive.
    • To act as a key worker for a named group of residents, ensuring that these responsibilities are carried out in full.
    • To understand and comply with all statutory and legal requirements which are relevant such as Health & Safety, COSHH, all aspects of the Care Standards Act, to maintain a safe environment throughout the Home.
    • To participate in the formulation and maintenance of individual care plans for each Resident and administer medication to residents as prescribed, accurately maintaining appropriate records for both.
    • To liaise with other care professionals relating to the care needs of the residents.
    • To always be alert to Residents physical and mental well being, immediately reporting any accidents or changes in a Resident’s condition to a senior person on duty, and to accurately maintain and update Residents’ records as required.
